Leonora Christina Ulfeldt was the daughter of Christian the 4th and his second wife, a commoner by the name Kirsten Munk. Since she was not an official princess and only a duchess, she was able to marry a Danish noble, Corfitz Ulfeldt. They had 10 children. He was later accused of high treason, leading the family to flee Denmark. She escaped imprisonment on several accounts, but was betrayed by the English king after she had gone to him to claim a debt. She was imprisoned in Copenhagen for 21 years and was only released after the Queen Dowager died. She died in 1698 at an age of 77.

Peter Tordenskjold became a Danish vice admiral during the height of the Danish-Swedish wars. He was born a commoner but was knighted under the name Tordenskjold for his accomplishments in defeating the swedish navy. He played a large part in ending the long war with the Swedes. Born in 1690, he died in 1720 after a sword duel. His portrait is now commonly used on the cases for matchsticks.

Niels Henrik David Bohr was a Danish physicist who lived from 1885-1962. His research won him a Nobel prize in 1922. He had met people like Albert Einstein in Germany and had many friends in Germany whom he helped escape during the second World War. In 1943, he and his son Aage had to escape Denmark because he was under suspicion for conspiracy against the Germans. They reached England where they were convinced to participate in the Manhattan project. Like many of his colleagues, he never intended for his research to be used for such a purpose and spent the rest of his life advocating for the peaceful use of atomic power.

Vitus Bering was a Danish seafarer under the Russian crown. His nickname was the Zars Danish Columbus. He was the one that proved America and Asia weren't connected by land, hence the name of the Bering Strait and Sea. During one of his expeditions, the ship got into trouble and they moored on a small island where most of the crew ended up dying from scurvy and starvation. Bering himself died on the island in 1741 at the age of 60. His thumb was found in 1991 by Danish archaeologists on the Island of Bering.

Tycho Brahe, who lived from 1546 to 1601, was a noble-born Danish astronomer and alchemist. He worked for many years under the Danish Crown and developed the Tychonic system that proves planets move in ellipses and not perfect circles. He used several fields of science to create his calculations. His most famous feature was his prosthetic metal nose, which he wore after he lost the bridge of his nose in sword duel over a mathematical disagreement. He was exiled from the Danish court and ended up living in Prague where he worked for the Holy Roman Emperor. He died after having attended a banquet where he had refused to go to the toilet so as to not break etiquette. His death has been surrounded by many conspiracy theories, but in 2010 it was proven that he had died from uremia and a ruptured bladder.
